Veoh is a network dedicated entirely to video uploading, sharing and viewing. Users can find videos by keyword or category. Categories include many broad topics such as science fiction, fantasy, activism, people, blogs, action, adventure, lifestyle, family, sports, tech, travel, anime, animation, animals, faith, fashion, horror, music, comedy, celebrities, autos and much more. Users can also browse television show clips, movie clips and music related videos. Veoh provides a list of themed channels so users can get a larger quantity of video content based on a specific interest.
Along with video sharing, Veoh makes it easier to find videos of interest through groups. The groups are essentially collections of videos in a series. The user can add a group to their interests and share groups on Facebook, My Space, Digg, Twitter, Stumble Upon and email.Show more screenshots »
Veoh was founded by Dmitry Shapiro. The earliest version appeared in September of 2005 with a full beta launched in March of 2006. Veoh left beta and went live in February of 2007. The application has been growing and improving, with the addition of iPhone and iPod supported websites as well as the Veoh Video Compass. In order to market itself better, Veoh actually blocked service to a number of countries, including Lebanon, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Malaysia, Pakistan, Romania and Martinique.
Veoh’s services are not terribly different from sites like YouTube and Vimeo. What makes Veoh appealing is the number of customization options given to users. The user can explore videos by category or check out an entire series of videos linked together through a group. Users can discover new video content and enjoy content they like easily through Veoh.
Veoh has a very modern, sleek appearance that makes good use of pleasant blue and rich gold tones. The stylish logo features a circular play button. The site is easy to use and presents the user with all of their video searching options in a banner that spans the top of the homepage.
The website contains a handful of advertisements, some of which are very annoying. A video clip presented on the homepage includes an advertisement that cannot be paused or muted. Once the video starts, the mute function suddenly works again. Although the site looks good, annoying your visitors into watching an ad video is not a good way to go from a customer service standpoint.
A new user can join the Veoh community by clicking the white “Create an Account” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. A blue and white “Connect” button is found to the right of the link for users who prefer to log in with an existing Facebook account. The account creation form also offers a blue “Sign In with Twitter” option. It is unclear why the Facebook and Twitter options are not both displayed in the same places.
Users who prefer to fill out the traditional registration form are asked to provide a username, email address, password, country location, gender, birth year and optional birth month and day.
All visitors are welcome to create a Veoh account for free. There are no subscription fees or other expenses associated with the application. Users with an account can watch videos that are longer than 30 minutes in duration, download high quality video clips, upload videos of any length and create their own groups.
Veoh.com is a great resource for anyone who loves to watch videos online. The site includes a diverse collection of genres along with videos of various lengths so users can easily find something interesting to enjoy. Users can also share their videos by creating an account and uploading clips to Veoh.
